NZHGPA Paragliding Open Round Two -  Nelson 2016

The New Zealand Paragliding Open Round 2 for 2016 will be held in Nelson from Saturday 27 February to 5th March 2016 (registration on 26th February). This is the second of two FAI Cat2 competitions for the NZ season.

Selection Procedures

The Nelson PG Open 2016 is open to all pilots who meet the qualifying standard and are either full or visitor members of the NZHGPA. 

The minimum requirements for a pilot to enter this Championship are either:
Having flown in a FAI sanctioned competition, or a minimum pilot qualification of PG2 (or international equivalent) plus 40 hours logged flying, or approved as being capable of competing by an NZ registered paragliding instructor.

The maximum number of entries permitted is 70 and acceptances are on a first received basis. As per FAI rules, 25% of places are reserved for foreign pilots until 15 days before the start of the event.

Entry Fee & T Shirt

The entry fee will be NZ$155 if paid by 30th Dec 2015.
This includes pilot pack, competition organisation, T-Shirt, daily briefings including weather summary, and presentation dinner.

After 30th Dec 2015 the fee will be NZ$175 and no T-Shirt will be included.

Weekend Warriors Package

Can’t make the whole comp?  Then why not make it a long weekend and come along and join in the fun and still score points.  We are offering a Weekend Warriors Package. (Fee $85)

Registration and safety briefings are for all on the Friday Evening, fly Saturday 27 Feb, Sunday 28,  Monday 29th Feb 
It includes the pilot pack, competition organisation, daily briefings including weather summary (T-Shirt and prize dinner are not included).

If you want this option please select the Weekend Warrior registration type on the registration form.  


Some sites in Nelson requires 4 x 4 vehicles to drive up to launch and vehicle pooling will be encouraged to launch.

If you don't have your own wheels we can provide a full transport package at $280 for the week - this includes pickup from the Sprig and Fern, travel to the site, getting you to takeoff, retrieve and return to Nelson each day.  At the time of writing we have a few spaces left, which will be offered on a first-come basis.  We may be able to offer a day rate, depending on availability.

WPRS ranking and the NZ ladder

All tasks from this competition will count towards both the WPRS ranking and the NZ ladder.  Please Note; to get a WPRS ranking you require a FIS Licence. It is the pilot's own responsibility to apply for the licence.  At the end of this competition the NZ PG Champions will be awarded on points gained from each pilots best tasks in both rounds of the PG Open.

Nelson Comp HQ and Registration

There will be a welcoming reception at the competition headquarters, Tahunanui Camp Ground on Friday 26th  Feb at 1800 where you will be able to complete registration, collect pilot packs, get GPS uploads and hang around trying to borrow the gear you forgot to bring with you.

The Mandatory Pilot Briefing will take place after registration at 2000 hrs. The First formal briefing will be on Saturday 27 March  at 0800 hrs at the Sprig and Fern Tahunanui.
