We welcome all foreign pilots wishing to enter this Cat 2 Open.

If there is anything we can do to make your stay in NZ more pleasant then we are more than happy to help. We can provide information about logistics and might be able to put you in contact with local pilots. Check the “Area Info” link for area details. Just email with any questions you may have.

Foreign pilot needs:

Over and above normal items: Glider with WOF, Reserve Parachute, Harness with back protector, Altimeter, Helmet and UHF radio, you will need:

• Current FAI License  


• Current visiting pilot membership  

Civil Aviation Authority(CAA) regulations require that all foreign and local paraglider pilots are members of the NZHGPA.

Visiting pilots can purchase a NZHGPA visiting pilot membership which lasts for four months and costs NZ$50.

Visiting paraglider pilots will be required to present one of the following:

• Para Pro 3 or greater


• Hang Gliding Federation of Australia - Intermediate


• United States Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association Inc - P3


• Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association of Canada - Intermediate


• British Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association - Club Pilot


• Swiss Hang Gliding & Paragliding Association - Pilot


• German Hanggliding and Paragliding Federation - A License
