Live Tracking

This is your chance to be part of the first paragliding competition where live tracking with mobile phones will be used in New Zealand.

The live tracking competition will be held at the same time as the main North Island PG Open and using the same waypoints and tasks. Pilots will fly the tasks of the main open and have their mobiles transmitting there position back to a web site. In other words you will be flying two comps at the same time.

General Rules

  • You must register for the main PG Open to compete in the live tracking comp.
  • All waypoints are the same as in the main PG Open.
  • All window open and close times are the same as in the main PG Open.
  • All start and finish times will be the same as in the main PG Open.
  • You will have to setup and register with www.livetrack24.com
  • All scoring will be done through Leonardo live. (FS)

What is Live Tracking

By using a GPS to determine your position and a mobile network to send this position in real time to a server, other people can see your exact position presented in a map in Real Time.

How does live tracking work

There are many ways to achieve Live Tracking. Leonardo Live uses your mobile to run a simple java program that collects the GPS information from the bluetooth GPS (look on trade me) or the internal GPS receiver of newer phones and send this info to a web Server.  The server stores all the info into a database and displays your position in real time on a map.

Compatible Mobile Phones

Any phone:

  1. Having Java, Bluetooth API(JSR82) and MDIP2.0-CLCD1.1 or

There is a test server (top right of page) http://test.livetrack24.com/index.php where you can try your setup and drive around in your car to see that it works. Only use the main server for real flights.
